May 7, 2018 – New York, NY – Repêchage® CEO and Founder Lydia Sarfati welcomed over 150 skincare and spa professionals from over 20 countries and the USA to the Repêchage® 20th Annual International Conference for Salon & Spa Professionals. Beauty professionals gathered at this year’s Conference to hear presentations from industry experts and participate in the launch of the NEW! professional express facials, the Repêchage® Red-Out® Express Soothing Facial, Repêchage® Biolight® Express Brightening Facial, and three new retail sheet masks: Repêchage® Red-Out® Soothing Sheet Mask, Repêchage® Biolight® Brightening Sheet Mask, and Repêchage® Lamina Lift™ Hydrating Seaweed Mask.
For her presentation, “Beauty Between the Sheets,” Sarfati highlighted the growth of the face mask market. The global face mask market was worth $5.7 billion in 2016 and is expected to grow to $8.8 billion in 2021. Within this category, sheet masks are a top growth driver, estimated to be worth $551.3 million by 2026.**

Yet, although there is a growth for retail face masks, Sarfati highlighted that a 2017 study from Statista found that out of 34.25 million Americans surveyed, 20.99 million Americans claimed to have not received a facial within the past 6 months.***
To capitalize on this growth opportunity as well as the appeal of sheet masks, Repêchage® has created professional express facials that utilize sheet masks: The new Repêchage® Red-Out® Express Soothing Facial and Repêchage® Biolight® Express Brightening Facial. To continue the benefits of the facial at-home Repêchage® introduces their new Repêchage® Red-Out® Soothing Sheet Mask, Repêchage® Biolight® Brightening Sheet Mask, and Repêchage® Lamina Lift™ Hydrating Seaweed Mask.
One of the most common problems clients face are dark spots and uneven skin tone, due to environmental factors and aging. Dark spots or hyperpigmentation are the brown, gray or black spots that can appear on the skin, often accompanied by dull, uneven skin tone. The Repêchage® Biolight® Express Brightening Facial For Dull, Uneven Skin uses the Repêchage® Biolight® Brightening Sheet Mask and other Biolight® products to create an express, 30 minute treatment. This combines the latest in sheet mask biotechnology, using ingredients such as Arbutin, Diglucosyl Gallic Acid, and Oxidized Glutathione combined with our exclusive Repêchage® seaweed extracts to help sallow, dull skin look rejuvenated, glowing and restored while helping to control the appearance of uneven tone. This treatment is great to use in conjunction with the Repêchage® Biolight® Luminex Mask, a creamy Kaolin Clay and Glycolic Acid (AHA) hybrid peel. This new facial can also be used as a supplement to the monthly Repêchage® Biolight® Miracle Facial with Glyco-Sea® Glycolic Peel.
Sarfati also discussed the increase of clients with sensitive skin. A recent study found that over 44% of nearly 1000 participants identified themselves as having sensitive-to-hypersensitive skin****. Over aggressive skin treatments, such as chemical peels and other exfoliants can lead to sensitized skin, compounded by environmental factors such as sunlight, wind, excessive heat or cold. Sensitive skin can be genetic, or can be caused by exposure to sensitizing ingredients such as harsh chemicals, fragrance, allergens, harsh soaps and sunscreens. The Repêchage® Red-Out® Express Soothing Facial uses the Repêchage® Red-Out® Soothing Sheet Mask, and other Red-Out® products to help reduce the appearance of redness caused by the environment and stress. This express professional treatment utilizes the blend of vitamins, minerals, trace elements, amino acids and antioxidants found in seaweed extracts with skin hydrating Hyaluronic Acid, Allantoin, Aloe, and Mirabilis Jalapa extracts, as well as Quercetin, Rutin and Silver to help soothe the appearance of the skin. This service is great for supplementing the monthly Repêchage® Red-Out® Facial with Seaweed Extract and Silver.

For true results, Sarfati believes it is crucial to practice proper, daily skin care at home in between facial treatments. To make that possible, Repêchage® has launched the at-home products, Repêchage® Biolight® Brightening Sheet Mask and Repêchage® Red-Out® Soothing Sheet Mask,. In addition, Repêchage® will now offer a retail version of the Repêchage® Lamina Lift™ Hydrating Seaweed Mask., a refreshing, hydrating sheet mask that leaves skin dewy and glowing. Formulated with Repêchage’s exclusive Laminaria Digitata complex, combining sustainably harvested Seaweed filtrate, Orange Water, and Aloe, this sheet mask also contains natural ingredients like Rooibos Tea, Licorice Root and Horse Chestnut extracts to help tone and brighten the appearance of the skin.
Sarfati was surprised guests with the unveiling of new Repêchage Perfect Skin Liquid Foundation. The seaweed and mineral-based Repêchage® Perfect Skin Liquid Foundation has expanded to ten shades for every skin tone with the addition of PS10 (Golden Deep), PS12 (Medium Deep), and PS 14 (Deep), and is now housed in a new, chic, redesigned bottle.
This year’s Conference was led by Beauty and Wellness Expert Shiri Sarfati and commenced with the Repêchage® Parade of Nations, representing guests who traveled from 20 countries to attend, including Bonaire, Canada, China, Croatia, Curacao, Dominican Republic, India, Ireland, Italy, Malta, Mexico, Pakistan, Panama, Romania, Russia, Taiwan, Thailand, Trinidad, United Kingdom, and the U.S.
Winn Claybaugh, Founder and Co-Owner of Paul Mitchell Schools, and author of Be Nice (Or Else!), (2004, Von Curtis Publishing) kicked off the event with a positive message for the crowd with “Be Nice (Or Else!) In the Workplace.” In his empowering speech, Claybaugh told the audience how changing your attitude in the workplace and choosing a job you love will both grow a business and grow one’s career. Claybaugh also reminded the crowd on the importance of how spa owners and staff should act in the workplace: Have fun, show gratitude, be approachable, be energized, be social, and don’t be too serious were some of the pieces of advice he offered.
Angela Noviello, Director of the Esthetics Division, Milano Estetica Cosmetic Surgery & Medical Spa and Italian Director and National Coordinator for OTI Oncology Esthetics also spoke this year. In her presentation “Oncology Esthetics” Noviello discussed her work with OTI (Oncology Training International) which currently teaches in 10 countries and has more than 2000 graduates. Noviello described the process of oncology esthetics, which includes working with a psychologist, a beauty lesson for patients, face and body treatments, and a fashion stylist for patients. Noviello shared the many benefits of oncology esthetics for patients, which include:
- Improves compliance with therapies
- Reduces anxiety and depression
- Promotes socialization
- Helps with self-imagery
- Promotes recovery from anesthesia
- Awakens the emotions
- Promotes relaxation
- Promotes hydration and protection of the skin
- Stimulates or relaxes the nervous system
- Promotes breathing

Noviello expressed how being able to help cancer patients feel beautiful again has been a truly gratifying experience as a skincare professional.
Dr. Leon Alexander, Ph.D. in Behavioral Psychology and Founder of Eurisko Design, presented “A Window into the Consumer Mind.” Dr. Alexander highlighted how consumers have changed today as a result of the digital world we live in, and how this will affect the future of beauty industry. Key changes that Dr. Alexander foresees affecting spa business and retailing include:
- Interactive sections including, skincare, make up and haircare.
- Each interactive section will have hands on activity combined with digital experience including scanning the consumer’s avatar, presented in a way that will entertain, educate and will lead the consumer to facilitate the purchase.
- Mobile technology which includes devices which provide consumer entertainment, education, product knowledge videos and promotions.
- RFID (explain what this is? Radio Frequency Information Device, or at least say an RFID chip?) in front windows that will enable all consumers to shop 24 hours a day for products and gifts in high street salons and spas.
- Spas providing “entertainment” that will make them shop and stay longer – this will come in the form of digital displays and touch screens with videos and offering other retail items and services such as wine bars and coffee bars
“Consumer values and perceptions are changing. It’s not just about high quality, it’s about speed and convenience (think Amazon), and spas must adapt,” said Dr. Alexander.
Sharon Blinkoff, Counsel, Locke Lord LLP and Secretary General Counsel of ICMAD was a key note speaker this year with “Navigating the Legal and Business Challenges Facing the Skin Care Industry” Ms. Blinkoff provided in-depth information on the regulation of cosmetics in the U.S., giving an overview of the US Federal Government agencies, including the FDA, Customs, FTC, EPA, OSHA, and U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and what each agency regulates. Blinkoff further discussed the FDA outlining how they regulate cosmetics, drugs, dietary supplements, foods and medical devices, and explaining that with respect to cosmetics the FDA has the authority to:
- Ban unsafe ingredients / prohibit use of color additives that are not approved.
- Object to false or misleading claims or products that do not bear required labeling
- Prohibit products from being manufactured or held under conditions of filth.
- Take enforcement action – product seizures and injunctions, and seek criminal sanctions against parties for failure to comply with FDA requirements.
As noted by Blinkoff, the FDA does not have the authority to:
- Pre-clear cosmetic products, or require premarket notification and there is no requirement for registration of cosmetic products, or manufacturing establishments
Attendees found Blinkoff’s presentation, which included a breakdown of the legal differences between drugs, cosmetics, dietary supplement, and medical devices, to be informative and helpful.
