Investing in ongoing education is one of the keys to being a successful esthetician.
This is why the Lydia Sarfati Post Graduate Skin Care Academy was created – to provide estheticians a space for continued brand education with business building techniques combined with hands-on training in advanced esthetics. In addition, as Chairman of CIDESCO Section U.S.A, I teach esthetics courses on behalf of at various tradeshows throughout the country.
But why is post-graduate education important and how will you benefit as a professional? Below I share several reasons why you should take part in esthetics education.
Learn about new techniques
There are always new technological advances in esthetics. Taking part in education will allow you to be up to date on new techniques that you can offer your clients. It will also allow you to answer any questions your clients may have about new treatments they read about online or see on TV.
Keep your clients excited with new facials/techniques
Everyone, especially millennial clients, is looking for new and interesting experiences. The treatments you’ve been using at your spa may be adored by long time clients, but what about offering new and exciting treatments that your product manufacturer has created?
Remember, manufacturers are continuously researching skin care ingredients and technology. Taking part in classes will allow you to learn from them directly about what’s new and what you can offer to your clients.
Learn new ways to upgrade and update your existing treatment/product lines
Many times product manufacturers create new treatments that also coordinate well with the existing treatments you’re offering. This is another method to enhance the client’s experience.
Learn what’s outdated
Perhaps the tools you are using are no longer being used by estheticians. Not only will you learn the newest treatments you can offer but also what you can discard or stow away.
Gain more confidence
As they say, practice makes perfect. The more training and education you receive, the more you will build your confidence as an esthetician.
Network with other professionals
It’s always beneficial to surround yourself with others in your profession. Learn what other estheticians are doing, what works for them and what doesn’t, and how they may do things similarly or different from you.
Become more qualified
If you’re an esthetician working at a spa, education is a way to help you move up. Having additional training and certifications will make you a more appealing candidate and can help you earn a better salary.
