Lydia Sarfati was next to take the stage, for her presentation “The Gold Standard of Wax.” During this presentation, not only did Sarfati present best practices for salon/spas when it comes to waxing, but Sarfati introduced the first waxing product to be developed by Repêchage, the brand new! Repêchage SeaSmooth Artisan Seaweed Wax. Waxing is one of the most popular methods of hair removal today, but as Sarfati discussed in her presentation, not enough attention is being paid to the skin when it comes to waxing. “From personal experience, I’ve had times where my waxing experiences were simply unpleasant – post wax redness, bumps, irritation and swelling, were all something I was experiencing, and I know clients are as well. The purpose of the Repêchage SeaSmooth Artistan Seaweed Wax is to provide a wax that will not only remove hair, but alleviate these side effects.” Sarfati highlighted the ingredients in this soft, creamy wax, including select seaweeds that deliver vitamins, minerals and trace elements for unparalleled smoothness, Zinc Oxide which provides natural antimicrobial action, and Aloe Vera that helps to relieve visible irritation.

Guests witnessed as Sarfati demonstrated how to perform the Artisan leg waxing experience for clients. Creating a relaxing experience, the client began the treatment by lying down facing a bowl filled with fresh poinsettias. Sarfati then began by using a dry brush to gently exfoliate dead skin cells and lift any ingrown hairs. Using a clean spatula, Sarfati then applied the wax in the direction of the hair growth using one long, smooth movement, and proceeded to then remove the wax with Repêchage Muslin Strips. When the back of the legs were completed, Sarfati assisted her client to face upward for the front portion of the leg. As an example of an add-on service, a Repêchage Lamina Lift™ Mask was applied to the client while the waxing experience continued. Post-wax, Sarfati applied “ice-cubes” of Repêchage Skin Relief Soothing Gel that works to instantly relieve any irritation and hydrate skin, followed with Repêchage Vita Cura® Triple Action Nutrí Oil to help repair skin post-wax. Repêchage Global Education Leader Lauren Streeter also demonstrated alongside Sarfati, performing an eyebrow wax demonstration.

(2015 Beauty & Spa Trends presented by Lydia Sarfati)
Last but not least, Repêchage CEO and Founder Lydia Sarfati took the stage again for her closing presentation “2015 Beauty & Spa Trends.” Between traveling around the globe, partaking in salon events, tradeshows, and ongoing research, Sarfati presented the various trends she foresees in the beauty industry for 2015. The first trend Sarfati discussed was how facial care products for skincare are growing, meaning salons and spas have an opportunity to capitalize on this trend with home care products like face masks – the number one driver in skin care right now. Sarfati highlighted how the Repêchage One-Minute Exfoliating Mask in particular has increased by 311% in sales over the past year, supporting this point. Similarly, Repêchage classic C-Serum Seaweed Filtrate has increased 38% in sales, Algo Mist Hydrating Seaweed Facial Spray has increased by 118% from 2013, and Rapidex Marine Exfoliator by 448%, leading Sarfati to conclude that layering skin care will be a trend for 2015. The next trend Sarfati went on to discuss was how aging is skewing younger, meaning younger generations are starting to have concerns for aging. Sarfati discussed how generations Y and X are showing the strongest interest in prolonging health & vitality, and they are looking for beauty products that support prevention, correction, and are naturally made. The next trend discussed by Sarfati was one relating to today’s pop culture world – “buxum bods.” Between Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez, curvaceous bodies seem to be the look of now, and spas can get in on the action. Offering cellulite treatments, waist-slimming treatments, stretch mark treatments and waxing treatments to service the body will be seen in 2015. Shifting gears to a more serious topic, Sarfati shared the alignment between esthetics and medical practices. Dr. Samuel Shatkin is a prime example of how more and more medical experts will start to work with estheticians to utilize skincare at their practices. Last, Sarfati discussed education for 2015. As the saying goes, “Knowledge is power.” Sarfati touched on the notion of how we live in a growing world where so much information is at our fingertips. In terms of success in business, Sarfati noted that those who take advantage of this information and have a desire to learn will move forward in our industry, while those who choose to dismiss educational opportunities will fall behind.
